The lyrics to this song were conceived after CJ and Smitty met a guy who was walking around the city with worn out shoes, and very cut up feet. He asked Cj for his phone to call his family so that they would send him money for new shoes, explaining that he had just been kicked out of his house and was just in the hospital being treated for the blisters and calluses on his feet. After he made his call home, he went on his way.
This experience influenced the writing of this song, attempting to tell a similar story while giving it a positive light at the end. When you're kicked down, keep on moving forward as much as you can.
lyrics
If the rain falls than I'll
finally shower this week
and if the sun shines than I'm
gonna feel the days heat
bounce off the streets
I'm beginning to call home
my company they'll keep
since all of my friends are gone
They watched me
they watched me fall
they watched me
they watched me fall
The wooden bench in the park
Don't give me the same dreams
and I've been thinking about my youth
When you'd kiss me to sleep
I'm sorry
Nothing is what
I've made myself to be
But my chances aren't gone
as long as my heart still beats
and i've been looking towards the sky
getting lost in its blue eyes
the only way I can go is up
but my will was never enough
'Cause i've made mistakes in life
and my regrets pile high
but nothing I've done in my life,
makes me deserve to walk the streets
at night
I never took nobody's life
but oh I still
feel the strife
'cause i'm stuck here
standing on the edge of this knife
The wooden bench in the park
Don't give me the same dreams
and I've been thinking about my youth
When you'd kiss me to sleep
I'm sorry
Nothing is what
I've made myself to be
But my chances aren't gone
as long as my heart still beats
and you better believe
that I'm not giving up
sitting here at rock bottom and i'm looking towards the top
the streets are calling my name
they're calling my name
They watched me, they watched me fall
And i'll breath smoke into the trees
and i'll fall back asleep
and i'll try and catch my dreams
whatever's gonna make me
happy again
